Sometimes we see pictures of bouncy castles and other inflatables set up in areas where they just do not belong, as doing so puts the users of the inflatables at risk. This blog post is going to explain some of the reasons we must turn such hires down, and the reasons why.
Bouncy castles are a wonderful way to keep kids (and adults) entertained, and provide endless amounts of fun when used safely! But when they are used or set up incorrectly accidents are far more likely to happen. We at Bounce Back Castles Ltd put safety first, ensuring all our castles are checked before each hire for any damage or if there are any hazards at the location we are setting up.
Example of an unsafe set-up for a bouncy castle:

The picture above is an example of a bouncy castle that is set up in a very dangerous manner. There are several reasons why:
- It is on a hard-standing surface with no anchor points in use, such as sandbags or water tanks
- No crash mats are provided
- An extension lead running in between the area where the children will slide down and then run back up to the main step of the inflatable.
Not only can a castle set up in the manner above put your children and users of the castle at a far greater risk, it would also invalidate the providers insurance, due to the castle not being set up in line with the manufacturers guidance and breaking the insurer’s rules.
The pictures below show how bouncy castles and inflatables are supposed to be set up before use.

At Bounce Back Castles Ltd:
- We are proud members of B.I.H.A and TIPE - organisations who promote best practice in the industry
- Ensure all our castles and inflatable are annually safety tested
- We provide Risk Assessments for each inflatable/hire product
- If we are unhappy with the area you want us to set up in we will tell you and suggest the best position from a health and safety perspective
We believe that all of our customers would be far more wary of having a castle set up in some locations if they were fully aware of the potential risks, and although any reputable company would refuse to set them up in such places, there are some companies that would, which is why it is important to hire from a reputable company who will tell you if the area you have is unsuitable, after all it is certainly better safe than sorry.
There are several ways to check that you are hiring from a reputable company, these include:
- Asking for the company’s public liability insurance certificate
- Asking for a risk assessment and safety instructions
- Checking the reviews of the business you are looking at hiring from
Many people (including me) haven’t got a suitable garden for a bouncy castle and if this is the case for you, then it may be worth hiring a venue. We have a list of different village halls throughout Norfolk on our Venues page.
