16 September 19 - Ten things to do when hiring a bouncy castle

Organising a party can be a very stressful time especially if it is the first time you have organised one, but with the correct planning and ensuring that you have covered all bases it can be a lot easier and a lot less stressful! We have put together a list of ten things so that you can be sure that your party will be a success!

1. Have you got enough space for your chosen inflatable?

The sizes of our bouncy castles and inflatables are listed on the product pages, but we also have a "minimum required space" on the product page also. It is imperative that you have at least this minimum space to ensure that there is suitable space around the bouncy castle to ensure the safety of the users, and so that we can set up on the day without any problems.

2. Have you got a suitable surface for the bouncy castle to go on?

When bouncy castles and inflatables are outdoors, we need to be able to anchor them in with metal stakes/anchors. The pegs are 380mm in length, and 16mm in diameter, and we need to be able to hammer those all the way. As such, we are unable to put bouncy castles outdoors on driveways, car parks, astro turf, artificial grass, concrete or any other surface were we are unable to get the pegs in. We sometimes get asked if we are unable to put them on these surfaces due to the bouncy castle getting damaged but this is not the case, it is purely down to ensuring the safety of the users and us adhering to the guidelines set out in BS EN 14960:2019

3. Is there suitable access for the bouncy castle or inflatable to get into your garden, or where you want the inflatable?

Bouncy Castles and inflatables can range in weight from 60-300kg, so they can be quite heavy! Our standard bouncy castles, bounce and slides, soft play and disco domes require a minimum access width of 3ft, and although not desirable we can often go through houses with these inflatables, although it can be a difficult way to do it. The other problem with going through houses is that if the inflatable gets wet in the day time it can be heavier and larger when it is packed away then when we came in, so that's another thing to be careful of. Our obstacle courses, slides, and many of our action inflatables are considerably more heavier and larger than our standard bouncy castles, and range from 150-300kg. With these inflatables we ask for a minimum access width of 5ft and we are unable to take them through houses.

4. Check that the bouncy castle company you book with has insurance.

We have £5,000,000.00 public liability insurance, and it is always sensible to ensure whoever you decide to book with has insurance. We can provide our certificate on request, and if you book a village hall or venue for your bouncy castle then it is more likely than not that they will ask to see a copy. If you need to see ours, just let us know!

5. As well as insurance, check that the inflatable has had an annual/initial test

Bouncy Castles and Inflatables that are used commercially have to go through an initial and annual test, similar to a car going through an MOT. This is to make sure that the bouncy castle is still safe and suitable for use. If you need to see the certificates of any of our inflatables please Contact Us.

6. Is a 25m extension lead sufficient?

All of our bouncy castles and inflatables come with 25 meter extension leads as a standard. We can provide 45 meter ones however we do need to know this before the day. If you are unsure, please just get in touch! Some of our obstacle courses require multiple blowers and therefore, multiple sockets. Please be aware we are unable to plug extension lead into extension lead as this can increase the chance of the power cutting out and the inflatable going down.

7. Have you sent out invites?

It is good to get your party invites out as early as possible so that you don't buy too much or too little food! We often go to many parties were customers have actually decided to have two parties throughout the day, one for school friends, and another for family, but of course it depends on many other variables but that is one way things can be managed easier.

8. What is the weather looking like?

Many of our bouncy castles and inflatables have shower covers, however is should be noted that these do not make the castle weather proof. Heavy and/or persistent rain will get through so please bear that in mind.

9. Is the bouncy castle you have chosen suitable for your guests?

All of our bouncy castles have maximum numbers of users and it is important to get one that is suitable for your party. A kids 12x12ft bouncy castle is not going to be suitable for an adults only party, and could result in the bouncy castle getting damaged and the users not having very much fun! If you are unsure of suitability please get in touch and we will be happy to offer any assistance we can.

10. Ensure you have payment sorted

We accept payment either before the hire date via credit/debit card, bank transfer or cheque or otherwise cash on delivery. We only have a limited amount of time to set up each bouncy castle and inflatable so if you do wish to pay on delivery please ensure it is ready for once the set up is complete, just so we are not late to our other parties and events!
